Sharkey Nets Third Ivy Player of the Week Nod
October 13, 2009 | Field Hockey
Sharkey has now scored in each of her last six games and leads the team with 13 this season. Last Wednesday at top-ranked Maryland she scored early to give Princeton a 1-0 lead in the first half in a game that Maryland would come from behind to win in overtime. Four days later at American, Sharkey had an assist on freshman Michelle Cesan's goal, which tied the game at 1-1 in the first half, and scored the game-winning goal with 54 seconds left in regulation. It was her fourth game-winning goal of the season.
Sharkey now has won three Ivy superlative awards as she has paced the Tigers in scoring all season.
Also on Tuesday, the Tigers remained ranked fourth in the latest NFHCA Coaches Poll, breaking last week's tie for fourth with Wake Forest and moving ahead of the Demon Deacons. The Tigers return to Ivy League action this weekend on Saturday afternoon at Brown.
