SOUTH BEND, Ind. (10/2/09) - The Princeton men's cross country team finished 10th at the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday, Oct. 2, covering the 8k course with 262 points in hand.
The race will likely influence a shake up of the nationally-ranked teams next week, as No. 22 Washington surprised the field by taking first place. In second place was No. 15 Providence followed by No. 24 New Mexico, No. 20 Butler and unranked Arizona State to round out the top 5.
The sophomore class confirmed their worth to the Tiger roster as they made up four of the five scorers for the squad today. Leading the pack was Brian Leung, who rocketed across the finish line at 23:58 to take sixth out of 179 harriers. Donn Cabral proved his win at the Cappy Anderson Invite was no fluke, covering the course in 24:33 for 39th place, followed by Joe Stilin at 24:54 for 63rd. Junior captain Rob Speare came in 73rd place with a time of 25:00, and sophomore Sean Wilson was five seconds behind for 81st place. Four other Tigers ran in the race.
Six hundred miles away, Princeton was earning a 24th-place finish at the Paul Short Run at Lehigh University. The team accrued 678 points in the 8k Gold Race with an average time of 25:12. Freshman James Webb was the first to clock in for the Tigers with a time of 24.59, followed by sophomore Max Kaulbach at 25:06. Sophomore Tyler King and junior Mark Amirault ran in together at 25:13 and 25:16, respectively, while freshman George Galasso came in 11 seconds later as the final scorer for Princeton.
Princeton also entered three runners in the JV race and they finished in the top 40 out of the 405 that competed.
The Tigers host their only home meet of the season on Saturday, Oct. 17 with the Princeton Invitational.
