Seven Named All-Region in Cross Country
November 20, 2009 | Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country
PRINCETON, N.J. (11/20/09) - The US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the Division I Cross Country All-Region Teams this week. The Princeton cross country teams had seven selections, five for the women's team and two for the men.
Junior captain Rob Speare led the Tigers at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional finishing in 12th place. His finish qualified him to the NCAA Championship, to be held on Monday, Nov. 23. This is Speare's second time earning all-region cross country honors, having earned the award last season. Sophomore Donn Cabral was also selected. Cabral finished 14th at Regionals in his first year competing on the team, after having to sit out last year due to an injury.
Earning all-region honors on the women's team are seniors Liz Costello and Reilly Kiernan, juniors Sarah Cummings and Ashley Higginson and sophomore Alex Banfich. Costello has been named all-region all four of her years as a Tiger, while Cummings is picking up her third all-region honor as a junior. Banfich, Kiernan and Higginson have all earned all-region honors on one other occasion. All five will run in the NCAA Championship on Monday, Nov. 23, in hopes of improving on last year's fifth-place finish.
The race will be aired live on VERSUS.
