Outsides Pace Volleyball To Fifth Win In Last Six Matches
November 07, 2009 | Women's Volleyball
While it may be too late to get into the Ivy League championship race, the Princeton women's volleyball team is proving that it is still among the league elite and plan to remain for years to come. The Tigers defeated Cornell 3-0 in Ithaca Friday night for its fifth Ivy League win in the last six matches.
The victory, which gives Princeton a season sweep over the Big Red, moves the Tigers to 8-13 overall, 6-4 in the Ivy League. Princeton is now a half game ahead of Harvard for third place in the league; the Crimson dropped a tight 3-2 contest to Yale Friday night.
Princeton got the majority of its offense from its outsides. Senior Sheena Donohue led the Tigers with 18 kills and seven digs, while freshman Lydia Rudnick recorded 11 kills and 10 digs. Both outsides hit better than .350, while the team hit .292 for the match. Sophomore Michaela Venuti paced the offense with 36 assists, while classmate Hillary Ford led the defense with 13 digs. Senior Taylor Carroll recorded seven kills without an error and hit .304 for the match.
Princeton will now travel to New York City to compete against Columbia Saturday afternoon.
