Top Male Athletes Of The Decade: No. 2 Tora Harris '02
December 29, 2009 | Men's Track and Field
More than a decade after he first came to Princeton, Tora Harris remains head-and-shoulders above the rest. Literally.
Now past 30, Harris remains one of the best high jumpers in the world. Going back to his college, he put together a career in the event that makes him one of the greatest athletes ever at Princeton, not just in this decade.
Harris was a two-time NCAA high jump champion, winning both indoors and outdoors his senior year. He was also an eight-time Heptagonal high jump champion, never failing to win indoors or outdoors in four years.
Besides his two NCAA wins, he was also a five-time All-America and a four-time Top 5 finisher at the NCAA championships.
He holds the Princeton high jump record at 7-7, which is nearly four inches better than any other Princeton athlete ever has gone. It is also the Ivy League record.
Harris' success didn't end with graduation. His international career began with a bronze medal at the 2001 World University Games in Beijing, and he also competed at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.
He also has been a three-time U.S. high jump champion, outdoors in 2006, indoors in 2007 and again outdoors in 2009.
