Women's Squash Tops Dartmouth 8-1, Will Face Harvard For Ivy Title Sunday
February 07, 2009 | Women's Squash
The Princeton women's squash team moved to 9-0 overall, 5-0 in the Ivy
League, with an 8-1 home victory over Dartmouth. The win sets up a
championship showdown Sunday against Harvard, which is coming off a 7-2
road win at 2008 Ivy champ Penn.
Princeton, the two-time defending national champion, will be going for its fifth Ivy League title in program history, as well as its second in three years. The Tigers got 3-0 wins at every spot except No. 5, where Princeton tri-captain Maggie O'Toole retired with an injury after winning her first game.
Otherwise, it was smooth sailing for the top-ranked Tigers, who played without No. 2 player Neha Kumar. Amanda Siebert swept three games at No. 1 against Hannah Conant, while 2009 Constable Invitational champion Emery Maine won 3-0 at No. 2 over Madeline Lurio. By resting Kumar, head coach Gail Ramsay was able to get all three of her tri-captains in the match. Besides O'Toole and No. 6 Aly Brady, Princeton used Joanna Scoon at the No. 9 spot, and she earned a 3-0 win over Heather Binney.
Princeton will take on Harvard at noon Sunday in a two-shift match, meaning matches 2, 4, 6 and 8 will be played first, followed by matches 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9. Princeton defeated Harvard 6-3 last season, the same margin of victory Princeton had against the Crimson in the 2007 national final. Harvard has had a terrific season and stands at 7-0, 4-0 in the league, after a 7-2 win at Penn.
