Pessala Records Personal Best at Princeton Open

PRINCETON, N.J. (2/8/09) ? Senior Alex Pessala recorded a personal best in the weight throw at 20.14 meters to win the event at the Princeton Open on Saturday, Feb. 8. The mark meets NCAA provisional qualifying standards. Pessala's previous career best was 19.28 meters.
Six other Tigers earned first-place finishes at the home event, and the relay team recorded a victory as well.
Freshman Ivan Charbonneau won the 60-meter dash delivering a time of 7.03. Junior Andrew Usoro and freshman Adam Hydman also made the finals of the event and placed fifth and sixth. Hydman moved on to the 200-meter dash, where he finished in third place with a time of 23.05.
Senior Ian Thomson earned first-place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.58.
The Tigers earned first through fourth place in the 500-meter dash, with sophomore Mike Eddy winning the event at 1:04.74. Freshman Ricky Kearney and juniors Brian Li-A-Ping and Tom Zozokos followed.
Assistant coach Jeff Zoda won the 800-meter run, covering the course in 1:54.09. Freshman Nick Thomas followed in the second place at 1:55.95 and sophomore Tony Salvatore was third at 1:55.99.
Sophomore Kyle Soloff won the mile with a time of 4:10.82. Freshman Brian Leung came in second at 4:12.89.
Sophomore Adam Thayer was the lone Tiger to compete in the 60-meter hurdles. Thayer had a preliminary time of 8.26 and finished in second place in the finals at 8:53.
Princeton put together three teams for the 4x400 relay. The A squad had a winning time of 3:22.78 while the B team was third at 3:27.58.
Junior Ian Fox took top honors in the high jump, with a height of 2.11 meters. Junior Scott Henkeman had equal success in the long jump, with a length of 6.89 meters.
Princeton took first, second and third in the pole vault. Freshman David Slovenski reached 5.15 meters, while junior Chad Faulkner and freshman Derek Hynes each recorded marks of 4.80 meters.
Junior Eric Plummer took second place in the shot put with a throw of 17.58 meters, while sophomore Craig Pearce finished second to Pessala in the weight throw at 18 meters.
The team will compete at the H-Y-P on Saturday, Feb. 14 at Harvard.
