Navy Defeats Baseball 11-3 in Series Opener

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Navy plated runs in all but one inning to defeat the Princeton baseball team 11-3 on Friday afternoon. Sophomore Greg Van Horn led the Tigers with three hits and RBI in the game.
Princeton fell behind early as the Tigers couldn't convert on base runners in the early innings, while the Midshipmen did. Navy pushed across two runs in the first inning and one in the second before the Tigers were able to get their first when Van Horn scored following a double.
Navy continued to build its lead with two runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth before the Tigers were able to close the gap with two runs in the seventh inning. Van Horn singled in a run and error allowed the second run to score. Navy closed out the win with a pair of runs in both the seventh and eighth innings.
Senior Derek Beckman, senior Adrian Turnham and junior David Hale both had two hits in the game.
Junior Jon Broscious pitched three innings and took the loss for the Tigers. Princeton is now 4-5 overall and continues its series at Navy with a doubleheader tomorrow.
