Princeton Soccer Hosts Trenton Youth Programs
April 14, 2009 | Men's Soccer, Women's Soccer
While it had rained the night before, by the time the children (ages 8 -13) arrived the rain had stopped and the new turf soccer field was in excellent shape. The group broke up into girls and boys sections, and varsity coaches and players from both the men and women's teams led skills and drills exercises. After that, small side and then larger games were held. Princeton players joined each team - much to the delight of the youngsters. Meanwhile, some of the Trenton dads enjoyed testing their penalty shot skills against the goalkeeper coach.
During the clinic, the values of self-discipline, focus, hard work and a good education were stressed. After the clinic, two of the players led the group on a tour of the campus. The parents were very interested to hear a soccer alumnus explain that if a student-athlete has excellent grades and participates in meaningful activities, many colleges will provide substantial financial aid to enable attendance.
