Men's Track Begins Penn Relays Thursday Night

PRINCETON, N.J. (4/22/09) ? The Princeton men's track and field teams will compete at the 115th Penn Relays Thursday, April 23 through Saturday, April 25. All track and jumping events will take place at Franklin Field, while throwing events will take place on fields near Franklin Field.
The Tigers will compete in three events on Thursday and four events on Saturday, with the majority of their competition on Friday.
Kicking things off on Thursday will be freshman Trevor VanAckeren in the championship division of the steeplechase at 7:30 p.m. VanAckeren has already qualified for the NCAA Regional in the event with a time of 9:02.84. Seniors Peter Bartlett and Bryan Sharkey will run the Olympic development steeplechase 20 minutes later. At 9:20, senior Cameron Marantz, juniors Tim Branigan and Ted Price and freshman Joe Stilin will run the championship 5000.
On Friday at 9 a.m., junior Tom Zozokos and senior Ian Thomson will run in the 400 Hurdles in the championship division. The 4x100 will run at 12:35 p.m., and the 4x400 will compete against its Ivy League opponents in the heptagonal at 5:15 p.m.
The field events begin with the Eastern high jump at 10 a.m., with junior Ian Fox representing Princeton. Sophomore George Abyad, freshman Patrick Park and senior Tim Lanni will compete in the Eastern shot put, and junior Eric Plummer in the collegiate shot put at 11:15 a.m. Abyad and junior Joel Karacozoff will take on the collegiate discus at 1:30 p.m., while sophomore Dion Lehman and junior Scott Henkelman competing in the Eastern long jump at 3:30 p.m. Freshman David Slovenski will compete in the championship pole vault at 2 p.m., followed an hour later by the Eastern Pole that will feature junior Chad Faulkner and freshman Derek Hynes.
The hammer throw starts things off on Saturday at 11 a.m. Senior Alex Pessala and sophomore Craig Pearce will partake in the championship division, with Karacozoff in the college division at 12:15 p.m. Junior Mark Paski will try his hand at the collegiate javelin at 12:30 p.m. The final event for the Tigers will be the 4x800 Championship of America race at 4:25 p.m.
