Open Crew Sweeps Columbia, Rutgers
April 05, 2009 | Women's Rowing - Open
With difficult conditions making the Raritan River course all the more challenging, the Princeton open crew was a perfect 4-for-4 Saturday against Rutgers and Columbia. Heavy wind caused a strong tail/cross tailwind and heavy chop, but the Princeton squad still managed a convincing win in the varsity eight.
One week after splitting its season opener against powerful programs Michigan and Brown, the seventh-ranked Tigers won the varsity eight contest in 6:13.49, while Columbia finished second in 6:32.38. The host Rutgers boat placed third in 6:39.74. The Princeton second varsity won by nearly the same margin, finishing in 6:26.2 against the Columbia time of 6:43.1.
Princeton also swept a pair of varsity four races against Columbia. The 'A' boat finished in 7:15.9 for a win of more than 13 seconds, while the 'B' boat finished in 7:17.3 for a win of more than seven seconds.
Princeton will return home next weekend to battle for The Class of 1975 Cup against Cornell, Harvard and Bucknell.
