May 15, 2009 | Women's Soccer
PRINCETON -- Princeton's rising junior goalkeeper Alyssa Pont was named to the W-League's Team of the Week for her play in the Washington Freedom's season-opening shutout last week.
Pont, who was named a first-team All-Ivy keeper in 2008 in her first season as Princeton's starting goalkeeper made seven saves in a 1-0 victory over Boston May 9. The Freedom are scheduled to play 13 more games before the regular season ends in mid-July.
Shutouts were a common occurrence for Pont with the Tigers last season. Pont completed seven blankings and was a part of three more as Princeton had 10 shutouts in a season that saw the Tigers go 12-3-2 and return to the NCAA tournament for the seventh time in 10 years.
Pont is playing for the Freedom as a native of Sterling, Va., on the outskirts of Washington, D.C.
