PRINCETON, N.J. (5/16/09) ? The Princeton women's
track and field team is in fourth place and the men's team is in 11th place
after the second day of the IC4A and ECAC Championships at Weaver Stadium.
Senior Alex Pessala won the men's hammer throw with a toss
of 68.76 meters. Sophomore Craig Pearce finished 11th after this throw of
58.16. Both meet NCAA Regional qualifying standards. Junior Joel Karacozoff
also competed in the event, reaching 48.71 meters.
Freshman Trevor Van Ackeren ran the preliminary 1500 in
3:46.21 to move on to tomorrow's finals. His time also qualifies him for the
NCAA Regional.
Also moving on to the finals tomorrow is freshman Austin
Hollimon in the 400. Hollimon crossed the line at 47.23 to take fifth place. The
4x800 relay team will be in the finals as well after clocking in at 7:31.42 in
the preliminaries.
The 4x100 posted a time of 42.45. In the hurdles, senior
Chris Vasich came in at 15.12 in the 110-meter hurdles, and senior Tom Zozokos
finished the 400-meter hurdles in 53.53.
Senior Jessica Kloss gave Princeton
a victory in the pole vault, as she matched her season best, clearing 3.95
meters. Sophomore Emma Ruggiero reached 48.61 in the hammer throw, while senior
Emma Giunipero threw the discus 37.97.
Freshman Alex Banfich will move on to the finals of the
1500, after finishing in 11th place in the preliminaries with a time of
4:29.15, her best time of the season.
Freshman Eileen Moran clocked in at 24.96 in the 200-meter
dash, and sophomore Lauren Barber ran the 100-meter hurdles in 14.98. The 4x100
team posted a time of 47.54 in the prelims and will not advance.
The final day kicks off at 10 a.m., with the men's high jump
and shot put.
