Higginson and Pessala Take Third at Regionals

GREENSBORO, N.C. (5/30/09) ? Sophomore Ashley Higginson and senior Alex Pessala of the Princeton track and field teams will compete in the NCAA Championship after placing third in their respective events at the NCAA East Regional on Saturday, May 30 on the campus of North Carolina A&T.
Higginson finished third in the women's steeplechase besting a facility record with a time of 10:12.79.
Pessala took third in the men's hammer throw, reaching 64.44 meters. Sophomore Craig Pearce finished 11th with a throw of 58.33, and junior Joel Karacozoff was 22nd as he recorded a throw of 53.06.
Sophomore Thanithia Billings earned an 18th-place finish in the women's shot put, throwing to 14.14 meters.
Freshman Trevor Van Ackeren was 14th in the men's steeplechase, covering the course in 9:14.10.
In the women's 1500-meter finals, junior Liz Costello finished in eighth place with a run of 4:28.57.
The final list of those competing in the NCAA Championship, June 10-13, will be announced by the NCAA on Tuesday June 2 by 3 p.m.
