June 15, 2009 | Men's Track and Field
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Michael Maag earned All-America honors by finishing 10th in the 5,000 meters at the NCAA Championships in Arkansas Friday night, concluding the Princeton athletic season.
The Tiger senior ran the distance in 14:14.67 in what was a tactical 5,000-meter race in the early stages. Over the last mile, Maag ran 4:11 to secure the All-America status. Galen Rupp of Oregon, a Beijing Olympian for the U.S., was the event winner in 14:04.12.
Maag's season-best time of 13:41 at the Mt. SAC Relays in California earned him a berth at the USA Track & Field Championships at Oregon's Hayward Field on June 26.
Maag was the fourth and final Princeton participant in the NCAA Championships, which was the final event in the Princeton athletics calendar and begins a 12-week summer break.
