Leading the list of the Tigers' top recruits this season is pole vaulter Tory Worthen out of Council Rock South (Pa.). The Pennsylvania state champion, Worthen has one of the top-10 marks in the nation, clearing 12' 10.” Although it will be hard to replace three-time Ivy League champion Jessica Kloss, Worthen's talents will go a long way in filling that void. Worthen will be backed up by Lauren Tauscher from Moorestown (N.J.) who is the New Jersey Group 3 champion, clearing 11' 6”.
The Princeton sprints group will be bolstered by the addition of Erin Guty, Abidemi Adenikinju and Melissa Zajdel. A graduate of Trinity (Pa.), Guty finished second in the Pennsylvania state championship in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.70 and was fourth in the outdoor meet at 12.20. She also can compete in the long jump if called upon, with her personal best mark of 19' 1”. Adenikinju boasts a personal best time of 7.10 in the indoor 55-meter dash. Competing for Eleanor Roosevelt (Md.), one of the top programs in the country, Adenikinju is the lead off in the teams' 4x100 and 4x200 relays. Because of the tremendous success of the team's relays, she hasn't had much of an opportunity to run individually and is considered “an unpolished gem” by coaches Farrell and Roskiewicz.
The final sprinter of the group is Zajdel out of Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse (N.Y.). Zajdel has very good personal best times in the 100, 200, 400 and 800. She will help Princeton in many of the relays as well as individually. The coaches have said “it has been awhile since we've had someone on our team with that kind of range.”
The cross country team will strengthened by an exceptional group of four runners: Abby Hewitt, Alexis Mikaelian and Mel Newberry and Abby Levene. Andover Academy's Levene is the New England private school champion in the 3,000 with a time of 10:01, a time comparable with those of the other harriers already on the team. Hewitt is the Pennsylvania indoor champion in the 3,000 with a mark of 10:09. A native of Racine, Wis., Mikaelian finished third in the Wisconsin state meet and has a time of 2:13 in the 800. From across the pond, Newberry has run the 1,500 in 4:35. Adding depth to the group will be Laura Zumbach out of Hinsdale, Ill., who has a personal best of 11:09 in the 3,200.
The middle distance corps leads a lift and they will receive that from a trio of runners: Greta Feldman, Emily Livingston and Maggie McKeever. A Haddonfield, N.J., native Feldman took sixth in the New Jersey state championship with a time of 2:12.93. Livingston out of Kentfield, Calif., was second in the Northern California championship with a personal best of 2:14.65, while McKeever from Greenwich, Conn., was the Fairfield County champion in the 800 and has a personal best time of 2:16.5
