Cross Country Starts Competition This Saturday

PRINCETON, N.J. (9/10/09) - The Princeton men and women's cross country teams begin its respective seasons on Saturday, Sept. 12 at the Fordham Fiasco & Follies held at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
The women's race, a 5k, will be held at 10:30 a.m., followed by the men's race, a 5-mile, at 11 a.m.
The Tigers last ran the Van Cortlandt Park course at the Ivy League Heptagonal on Oct. 31, where both teams recorded team championships.
The women's team, returns four of its five scorers from Heps, including individual winner senior Liz Costello, who clocked in at 16:59.9. Other scorers returning include: seniors Reilly Kiernan and Alexa Glencer and junior Sarah Cummings, who all finished in under 18 minutes.
Eighteen women's teams will compete in the race. They include: Columbia, Dominican, East Stroudsburg, FDU, Felician, Fordham, Georgian Court, LIU, Monmouth, NJIT, Penn, Ramapo, Richard Stockton, Rowan, Rutgers, Sacred Heart and St. Francis.
The men bring back three of its scorers from its last trip to the Bronx. Senior Ben Sitler took fourth overall, while sophomore Brian Leung was sixth. Also scoring was current captain Rob Speare who placed 24th overall.
A total of 19 men's team will run the race. They include: Columbia, Dominican, East Stroudsburg, FDU, Felician, Fordham, LIU, Manhattan, Monmouth, NJIT, Penn, Ramapo, Richard Stockton, Rowan, Rutgers, St. Francis, St. Joseph's and Sacred Heart.
