The series: Princeton and Towson have met only once before, last Sept. 19 at Roberts Stadium. Sarah Peteraf '09 scored 6:47 into the first overtime to win it for the Tigers.
Princeton and Rutgers have a much longer history. Rutgers leads 12-10-3 with the last meeting a 5-1 Princeton win on Oct. 2, 2007. In that game at Princeton Stadium, the Tigers' home for a season, Diana Matheson '08 had four assists and passed the career assist record, which she holds at 26.
Sunday begins a three-match homestand for Princeton, which will continue Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. against Hartford and conclude Saturday, Sept. 26 at 5 p.m. against Yale for the Ivy League opener.
Common foes: Towson and Princeton share three common opponents in Rutgers, Brown and Hofstra. Rutgers defeated Towson 1-0 in New Brunswick on Sept. 4, while Towson will face Brown on Sunday and Hofstra on Oct. 4. Princeton also has yet to face Brown and lost to Hofstra 2-0 in the season-opener Sept. 4.
Princeton and Rutgers have no common opponents aside from Towson. The match between Princeton's two opponents this weekend was scoreless until a penalty kick by Rutgers' Gina DeMaio went in during the 83rd minute.
Last time out: Princeton returned early Saturday from a trip to a pair of Mountain West Conference opponents, Utah and Wyoming. Both MWC foes got the best of the Tigers with second-half goals, Utah 2-0 and Wyoming 1-0. The matches were Princeton's first against an MWC school since the conference began play 10 years ago.
Princeton's three goals this season have come from three players, including sophomores Alissa Boddie and Barb Previ and senior Vicki Anagnostopoulos. The four assists have all come from freshmen, including two by Jen Hoy and one each by Stephanie Iantorno and Caitlin Blosser.
In net, Alyssa Pont has logged all 360 minutes, compiling a 1.50 GAA and saving 66.7% of shots.
Go Red Devils: Princeton senior co-captain Melissa Seitz and Towson freshman Jordan Luithle share an alma mater, Ridge High School in Basking Ridge, N.J.
On Towson: The Baltimore-area Tigers have had five goal scorers, but four of the team's 10 have come from senior Erica Marshall. Two goaltenders, Kristen Sample and Jocelyn Papciak, have shared the duties in net with Sample taking an edge in GAA (0.75) and minutes played (360). Papciak was in net for the whole of last year's match with Princeton.
On Rutgers: The Scarlet Knights have outscored their opponents this season 14-3 with four goals coming from junior Ashley Jones. Erin Guthrie has logged more than three-quarters of the minutes in net, racking up an 0.35 GAA and saving 81.8% of the shots that came her way.
