Yale to Visit Women's Soccer Saturday for Ivy Opener

PRINCETON -- With added confidence after a midweek victory, the Princeton women's soccer team will host Yale Saturday at 5 p.m. at Roberts Stadium to open the Ivy League season.

On the rebound: Princeton and Yale each ended winless streaks with midweek victories over teams from Connecticut, Yale 1-0 over Quinnipiac Tuesday and Princeton 3-0 over Hartford Wednesday.
On the Bulldogs: Yale started the season with three victories in one week by the combined count of 12-0 over Wagner, Hofstra and Sacred Heart. Since then, the Bulldogs have been involved in four straight one-goal games with three losses. Becky Brown, a native of Lawrenceville, N.J., next door to Princeton, has seven of Yale's 14 goals. In net, junior Ayana Sumiyasu has logged 80% of the minutes with an 0.70 GAA and .889 save percentage.
Series history: Princeton leads 20-9-2 and won last year's match in New Haven with a first-half goal by Lauren Whatley. Yale had won the previous three years. Princeton will be looking for its first home win over the Bulldogs since 2003 after Yale won in '05 and '07.
Spread it around: Lauren Saunders and Marci Pasenello became the fifth and sixth Tigers to score this season with their goals against Hartford. Jen Hoy, who also scored against Hartford, is the only one of the six scoring Tigers to have multiple goals.
In net: Junior goalkeeper Alyssa Pont earned her first shutout of the season against Hartford, lowering her GAA to 1.25 and raising her save percentage 71%.
Milestone win: Wednesday's victory was the 197th as an NCAA head coach for Julie Shackford, who is in her 15th season at Princeton after four at Carnegie Mellon.
Nutmeg stretch: Yale is the second of three straight Connecticut-based teams Princeton will meet in a week's time after Hartford and before Fairfield Tuesday. Princeton has played six of the seven Connecticut schools, all since 2004, except Quinnipiac.
