Tigers Take Third in Women's Track Meet

NEW YORK (1/30/10) - The Princeton women's track and field team finished third at the New York Road Runners Saturday Night at The Armory II on Saturday, Jan. 30.
After the 17 events were scored the Tigers earned 94.50 points. Cornell won the meet with 162 points, followed by Virginia with 114. Villanova was hot on Princeton's heels with 92.50 points. Columbia, Albany, Morgan State and Albany followed.
Junior Tiffany Liu won the long jump reaching 5.59 meters, a new personal best. She reached the mark on her first of four jumps.
Freshman Tory Worthen won the pole vault, clearing 4.00 meters. Her mark meets the NCAA Provisional Qualifying Standard.
The Tigers finished third in both throwing events. Junior Emma Ruggiero was third in the weight throw, reaching 16.53 meters on her sixth and final throw. Classmate Thanithia Billings placed third in the shot put with a throw of 14.67 meters.
Sophomore Eileen Moran medaled in two events, the 60 and 200 meter dashes. Moran was third in the 200, crossing the line in 25.04. She was second in the 60 at 7.70, shaving 0.06 seconds off her preliminary time. Freshman Abidemi Adenikinju also qualified for the finals of the 60-meter dash and replicated her 7.76 time from prelims in the finals.
Both Alex Banfich and Ashley Higginson found themselves reaching NCAA Provisional marks in the 3000-meter run. Banfich finished fourth and Higginson sixth, with times of 9:22.92 and 9:24.91, respectively.
Princeton will return to The Armory next weekend, Feb. 5-6 to compete at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational. The squad is also scheduled to send selected athletes to the Glegengack Invitational at Yale next weekend.
