Princeton Wins Two Events at Metro Invite

Freshman Melissa Zajdel won the 500-meter, clocking in at 1:61.91, the fastest of the 37 runners competing in the event.
Freshman Tory Worthen captured top honors in the pole vault, clearing 3.97 meters (13-00.25). In addition to Worthen, sophomore Lydia Arias and freshman Lauren Tauscher finished fourth and fifth in the event.
A pair of rookies placed second and third in the 3000-meter run. Mel Newbery took second at 10:09.41, while Abby Hewitt was third at 10:13.77.
Sophomore Eileen Moran earned a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line at 25.34. Freshman Abidemi Adenikinju was fourth, while sophomore Danielle Gleaser also placed in the top 10.
Adenikinju was third in the 60-meter dash finals at 7.72, while freshman Erin Guty was 13th after qualifying in the prelims. In the 60-meter hurdles, juniors Bianca Mathabane and Lauren Barber both qualified for the finals. Mathabane finished 10th and Barber was 12th at 9.27 and 9.42, respectively.
In the throwing events, junior Emma Ruggiero was third in the weight throw, reaching 16.65 meters (54-07.50). Junior Thanithia Billings was fifth throwing to 15.71 meters (51-06.50). She also was fourth in the shot put, tossing it to 13.68 meters (44-10.75).
In the relay events, the Tigers finished second in the 4x400. The team of Moran, Zajdel, Glaeser and freshman Joie Hand clocked in at 3:53.15, just 00.24 seconds behind first place Maryland-Eastern Shore.
Princeton hosts the Princeton Invitational on Saturday, January 23 at Jadwin Gym.
