Live Stats
The Lions are undefeated in their last six games with three wins and three ties, and both Columbia losses this season have come by one goal. Since a 2-1 loss to Central Connecticut State to open the season on Sept. 3, only a 1-0, double-overtime loss to Hofstra on Sept. 17 has kept the Lions from being undefeated on the season.
Hofstra is one of four non-league common opponents between Princeton and Columbia, along with Lehigh, Hartford and Long Island. Both teams beat Hartford and both lost to Hofstra, while the teams had different results against Long Island and Lehigh. Princeton lost to Long Island while the Lions tied the Blackbirds Tuesday, and Columbia tied Lehigh and Princeton defeated the Mountain Hawks Wednesday.
The teams are also next to each other in the latest NCAA RPI, Columbia at No. 68 and Princeton one spot behind through Monday's games. In the Ivy League standings, Princeton has nine points to Columbia's seven, and Harvard and Penn are right behind with six points apiece. Only a tie against Brown has kept Columbia from being even with Princeton on the Ivy tote board.
A win would give Princeton 12 points, keeping the Tigers at least three ahead of second place depending on results from Harvard's and Penn's games. A tie would give Princeton 10 points, still in first but potentially by only a point. A loss would take the Tigers out of first for at least a week, as Columbia would reach 10 points with Princeton in no worse than second place.
Defense has been the hallmark of both teams this season, as Columbia and Princeton rank first and second in the Ivy League in both goals allowed (eight for Columbia, 11 for Princeton) and goals-against average (0.62 for Columbia, 0.90 for Princeton).
Individually, Princeton's Caitlin Blosser leads the Ivy in points with 19 (6G, 7A), in assists, and in assists per game (0.58). Hoy leads the Ivy in goals, with seven, and game-winning goals, with four. Columbia's Ashlin Yahr has six of the team's 18 goals.
The game will match the top two goalkeepers in the Ivy as measured by goals-against average, with Columbia's Lillian Klein at 0.62 and Kristin Watson at 0.73, and in shutouts, with six for Klein and five for Watson. Klein also leads the Ivy in save percentage at .881, while Watson is third at .837.
