Cabral Wins Wisconsin Invitational; Tigers Take Third

VERONA, Wis. (10/2/10) - Junior Donn Cabral won the Wisconsin adidas Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 2 on the Zimmer Championship Course helping the Princeton men's cross country team to a third-place finish.
Princeton, ranked No. 23 nationally, competed against six other nationally-ranked teams. The Tigers came out in front of No. 9 Syracuse, No. 13 Oklahoma and No. 19 Providence.
Cabral finished the 8k race in 23:29.0 just four-tenths of a second ahead of Indiana's Andrew Bayer to capture top honors for his second meet of the season. Cabral won the Spiked Shoe at Penn State on Sept. 11. Cabral kept in the top pack the entire race, reaching the 3k at 9:01 and the 5k mark at 15:01.
Junior Brian Leung was 11th at 23:51.5 and classmate Joe Stilin crossed the line at 24:02.8 to take 23rd place. A pair of seniors rounded out the scorers as Kyle Soloff and Mark Amirault ran in together at 24:18.4 and 24:19.0, respectively, earning places 38th and 39th.
Princeton had three other harriers finish in the top 100 out of the 212 runners. Freshman Jonathan Vitez was 70th at 24:37.4, followed by Michael Franklin 75th at 24:41.7 and senior Dennis Walsh was 87th at 24:46.9
Indiana won the meet with a low score of 43 points having four of its scorers place in the top 10. Wisconsin followed in second place with 75 points, and the Tigers third with 112 points.
Princeton will get another strong test at Pre-Nationals on Saturday, Oct. 16 in Terre Haute, Ind. The program will also host the Princeton Invitational that same day at West Windsor Fields.
