October 27, 2010 | Men's Cross Country
PRINCETON, N.J. (10/27/10) - The Princeton cross country teams look to bring Old Nassau its first Ivy League titles of the season on Friday, Oct. 29 at the 2010 Ivy League Heptagonal.
The women's 5k race will began at 11 a.m., followed by the men's 5-mile race at 11:45 a.m., at Van Cortlandt Park.
The men are looking to avenge a one-point loss from 2009 to Columbia. Princeton earned 61 points to Columbia's 60 to take second place. The Tigers are seeking their 15th title overall.
Last year Brian Leung '12 medaled, taking third with a time of 25:28.0. Donn Cabral '12 finished his first Heps with a sixth-place finish, clocking in at 25:37.9. Captain Rob Speare was 11th at 25:46.5, followed by Mark Amirault '11 at 25:59.7 for 18th place. Sean Wilson '11 rounded out the top five with a 23rd place finish with a time of 26:11.8.
Cabral and Leung will be the Tigers' leaders at Heps this season. Cabral won the Spiked Shoe Invitational and the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational and has been the Tiger's top runner all season. Leung has always been on Cabral's heels as the second runner across the line. Joe Stilin, Mark Amirault and Kyle Soloff will most likely be the final three scorers. Stilin was injured last season but has finished as the team's third runner in two of three meets this season. Amirault was the third runner at Pre-Nationals and as a senior knows what it takes to win, along with classmate Soloff, who has been a scorer in both meets he has run this season. Freshmen Michael Franking and Jonathan Vitez also have potential to finish in the top five.
The Tigers are ranked No. 18 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association poll, as the only Ivy League team to be nationally ranked. Princeton is first in the Mid-Atlantic region, with Penn sixth. Dartmouth and Columbia are third and fourth in the Northeast region. Cornell, Yale and Harvard are 6-7-8 with Brown 12th.
