Cabral On Fast Track As Steeplechaser
It may be cross country season, but Princeton junior Donn Cabral is practicing his hurdling twice a week.
Not that long ago, such an activity would have been unheard of for Cabral. The former State Open and New England cross country champion from Glastonbury was a runner. Not a steeplechaser.
"When my coach suggested the steeplechase, I felt he had lost faith in my ability as a normal track runner," Cabral said Thursday. "I tried it once. I felt like I never wanted to do it again. It wasn't my thing. It seemed like it was a different sport. It wasn't running. The hurdles broke up the race too much. I couldn't get in rhythm. I couldn't run fast, which is why most runners run."
