The last time Princeton began the Ivy League season 2-0 was in 2008, also with wins over Yale and Dartmouth with Brown as the third game. Though the Tigers remained unbeaten, they weren't able to make it a 3-0 start with former Brown goalkeeper Brenna Hogue making seven saves as the teams drew 0-0 after 110 minutes.
Last season, the game went into overtime again, but Lauren Whatley made it a win for Princeton with a goal 2:08 into the first extra period. The Tigers are unbeaten in their last three against Brown, adding a 4-1 victory in 2007 in Providence. Brown is one of three Ivy League teams, including Columbia and Cornell, against whom the current Tigers are unbeaten.
Brown leads the series 15-13-3 overall, but since Julie Shackford took over the program in 1995, Princeton is on a 10-3-2 run.
While Princeton had an overall three-match winning streak snapped Monday with a 2-1, double-overtime loss at American, Brown will bring a three-match unbeaten streak into the game after ties against New Hampshire and Columbia and a 2-0 win over Holy Cross from Tuesday. Brown's 0-0 tie with Columbia last weekend is the first and only tie in an Ivy game this season.
The Bears have platooned their freshman goaltenders in every match this season, with Amber Bledsoe making all 11 starts and playing all 11 first halves, and MC Barrett entering for every second half and overtime. Their goals-against averages are nearly identical, with six goals against Bledsoe (1.09) and seven against Barrett (1.12), though Barrett has had to make more than twice as many saves as Bledsoe, 36-17. Barrett has come up with 83.7% of her saves to 73.9% for Bledsoe. Their win-loss records are not far apart either, with Bledsoe going 2-2-2 in her decisions and Barrett 3-1-1 in hers. At the opposite end of the field, the Bears lead the Ivy League in shots per game, averaging 16.
Jen Hoy had Princeton's goal in the loss at American, tying her with Caitlin Blosser for the Ivy League lead in goals this season with six. Blosser also leads the Ivy in points with 18 after adding in her six assists.
