Men's XC Sets Sights on NCAA Championship

PRINCETON, N.J. (11/20/09) - The Princeton men's cross country team will try to prove it is one of the nation's best at the NCAA Cross Country Championship on Monday, Nov. 22.
The 10k race will be held on the LaVern Gibson Championship Course on the campus of Indiana State in Terre Haute, Ind. The race will begin at 12:48 p.m. The race will be webstreamed on NCAA.com.
The Tigers are currently ranked 17th in the nation and is the top team in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Princeton won the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional last week to earn the automatic team bid to the national meet.
Leading the pack will be juniors Donn Cabral and Brian Leung. Cabral finished sixth during the Pre-National race on the same course in October clocking in at 23:36.1 for sixth place overall. Leung ran in at 24:01.2 to finish 16th overall as the second Tiger across the line. Leung was the top runner at Regionals last week taking fourth overall at 20:11 and Cabral was fifth with the same time.
Senior Mark Amirault has been Princeton's consistent number three all season. He ran a 24:15.3 at Pre-Nationals and a 30:22 at Regionals last week. Junior Joe Stilin was the fourth runner for PRineton at Pre-Nationals with a time of 24:36.9 to take 65th overall and was the fourth runner at Regionals with a time of 30:37.
Fighting for the final scoring slot are senior Kyle Soloff and junior Max Kaulbach. Soloff was fifth at Pre-Nationals with a time of 24:44.0, while Kaulbach was fifth last week at Regionals at 30:50 to finish 19th overall. Kaulbach was also key to Princeton's victory at Heps, pushing past a Cornell runner down the stretch.
The 2010 squad will try to better the program's best finish at the NCAA Championship, a 14th-place finish in 1975.
