Men's XC Posts Program's Best Finish at NCAAs Taking 12th

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (11/22/10) - The Princeton men's cross country team finished 12th at the 2010 NCAA Championship on the LaVerne Gibson Course in Terre Haute, Ind., on Monday, Nov. 22. Today's finish by the Tigers marks the best finish in program history.
Junior Brian Leung paced the Tigers for the second straight meet covering the course in 30:19. His time settled him 21st overall and earned him a way to the podium to be recognized as one of the top 25 individuals. Classmate Donn Cabral finished less than 10 seconds later at 30:27 to take 34th overall.
The duo was in the lead pack throughout the race and ran close together. The both clocked in at 5:51 in the 2k split, and 15:06 at the 5k split. With two kilometers remaining, Leung made his move to edge in front of Cabral.
The pair earned All-America honors to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association based on their finishes. They become the seventh and eighth harriers to earn All-America honors in program history and are the first pair to do so in the same season.
Senior Mark Amirault wasn't far back from that lead pack finishing 52nd overall with a time of 30:38.
Junior Max Kaulbach crossed the line at 31:33 finishing 145th and senior Kyle Soloff was 180th with a time of 31:59.
Princeton's two final runners, junior Joe Stilin and freshman Alejandro Arroyo Yamin finished six seconds apart at 31:12 and 32:18.
It was a rough day on the 10k course as winds were 17 mph out of the south with gusts of over 30 mph.
Liberty's Sam Chelanga won his second consecutive individual title with a final time of 29:22.2. Also repeating a victory was Oklahoma State. The Cowboys earned 73 points to win the team championship, followed by Florida State in second and Wisconsin third. Stanford, ranked No. 1 in this week's national poll, took fourth.
Princeton entered the race ranked No. 17 in the national poll. The Tigers finished in front of No. 5 New Mexico, No. 7 Colorado, No. 10 Syracuse, No. 15 BYU and No. 16 William & Mary.
