Cross Country Holds Annual Banquet and Announces Captains

PRINCETON, N.J. (12/3/10) - The Princeton men's and women's cross country teams held its annual banquet on Thursday, Dec. 2 at Charter Club to celebrate its success from the 2010 season.
The Most Improved Runner Awards were presented to senior Kyle Soloff and sophomore Abby Levene.
Theresa Devine and Alejandro Arroyo Yamin were honored with the Freshman Rosengarten Cross Country Trophy. It is presented awarded annually to that freshman member of the quad who in sportsmanship, improvement and performance has contributed most to the sport.
Junior Alex Banfich of the women's team and juniors Donn Cabral and Brian Leung of the men's squad were awarded the Varsity Rosengarten Cross Country Trophy. Awarded annually, it is given to that member of the team who in sportsmanship, improvement and performance has contributed most to the sport.
Captains for the 2011 season were also announced. Guiding the women's team will be Banfich, while Cabral and Leung will captain the men's squad.
The women's team won its fifth straight Ivy League Heptagonal in October. The Tigers earned their eighth straight bid to the NCAA Tournament and finished 15th overall. Princeton finished ahead of 10 teams that were ranked higher than it was and have finished in the top 15 six times in the last seven years and seven times in total in NCAA history. Five members of the team were named All-Ivy League, three garnered All-Region honors and Banfich was named All-America for her 20th-place finish at nationals.
The men's team recorded the best NCAA finish in program history taking 12th at the NCAA Championships. Cabral and Leung both earned All-America finishes, the first time two runners in Princeton history to earn the honors during the same season. The Tigers began the championship season winning the Ivy League Heptagonal with Cabral winning the race in the second-fastest time in Heps history. Princeton won the Mid-Atlantic Regional to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. Six harriers were named All-Region, while five garnered All-Ivy League honors.
Princeton is one of just seven schools to have both programs finish in the top 20 nationally.
