Men's Track Cruises To Victory and Gets Bus Cruising

COLLEGE PARK, Pa. (2/6/10) - The Princeton men's track and field team won its second straight meet after taking first place at the Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup at Penn State this weekend, Feb. 5-6.
The Tigers earned 107 points, 24 points better than second-place team Penn State. Cornell finished in third place with 80 points, while South Florida and Auburn tied for forth with 71 points apiece. A total of 12 teams competed at the meet.
Sophomore Austin Hollimon won the 400 with a blistering time of 47.03, his fastest run of the season. His mark is good enough for his third NCAA Provisional mark of the year.
Sophomore Max Kaulbach won the 5000-meter run clocking in at 14:34.75, besting 21 other competitors. Freshman Michael Franklin was third at 14:44.72 and senior Ted Price was fourth at 14:45.96. The trio contributed 21 points to Princeton's team total.
Junior Kyle Soloff continues to dominate the mile as he took first place for the fourth time this season, with a time of 4:08.2833. Sophomore Donn Cabral ran in right along with him at 4:08.2872. Cabral continues to improve on his time in the mile, which stood at 4:09.80 last year.
The freshman duo of Peter Callahan and Russell Dinkins went 1-2 in the 800-meter run. Callahan finished in 1:51.46 with Dinkins right behind at 1:51.55. Freshman Michael Palmisano came in fifth with a time of 1:53.16, as the Tigers earned 22 points in the event.
Sophomore Brian Leung finished third in the 3000-meter run at 8:14.89, setting a new personal best by nearly two seconds. Classmate Trevor Van Ackeren followed at 8:17.72 for fifth place.
Senior Justin Frick cleared 2.14 meters in his sixth jump to place third in the high jump. His mark of 2.14 is his third qualifying mark provisionally this year. Teammate Ian Fox was seventh with a jump of 2.04 meters. The duo combined to give the team eight points.
Senior Chad Faulkner was third in the pole vault clearing 4.91 meters. Derek Hynes was eighth at 4.65 meters to give the team an extra point.
The distance medley relay group of Tony Salvatore, Tom Zozokos, Matt Gonzalez and Tyler King clocked in at 10:11.67, its best time of the season, to take fourth place and earn five team points.
Other Tigers contributing to the team score were: Scott Henkelman in the long jump, Ricky Kearney in the 200 and Eric Plummer in the shot put.
Princeton hosts the HYP meet next Saturday, Feb. 13 at Jadwin Gym.
