Palms Pitches Gem in Baseball Team's Win at Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (3/19/10) - David Palms turned in his second straight strong pitching performance and led the Princeton baseball team to a 6-2 win at Navy on Friday afternoon. Palms held Navy scoreless until the final inning when the Midshipmen pushed a pair of unearned runs across.
Princeton plated six runs on 14 hits to claim its third win of the season and its second in a row. Matt Bowmanm, Brandon Englert and Noel Gonzales-Luna each had three hits in the win, while Bowman led all players with a pair of RBIs.
The Tigers built their lead with a run in the fifth, two in the sixth and three in the eighth inning. Bowman drove in the Tigers' first run with a groundout and an inning later, John Mishu also drove in a run with a ground ball. Gonzales-Luna made it 3-0 when he singled home Mishu later in the inning.
Princeton doubled its run total in the eighth inning as singles from Tom Boggiano and Bowman plated runs. The final Princeton run came on a sac fly from Sam Mulroy.
Palms went eight and two-third for the win, allowing just two unearned runs on eight hits. He cut his ERA nearly in half to 0.47. He struck out four batters. Ryan Makis came on to get the final out.
The win moved Princeton to 3-8 this season. The Tigers continue their series at Navy with a doubleheader on Saturday. Langford Stuber and Matt Bowman will pitch for Princeton.
