Men's Track Wins Three Sections at Stanford Invitational

STANDFORD, Calif. (3/27/10) - The Princeton men's track team traveled out west to the Stanford Invitational on March 26-27, one of the largest track meets in the nation at Cobb Track and Angell Field.
On Friday, the Tigers competed in the 1500, 5000, 10000 and the steeplechase.
Sophomore Trevor Van Ackeren won section 2 of the 1500-meter run at 3:46.86, beating out 11 other competitors. The next best time in the race was 3:47.03. Junior Kyle Soloff was third in section 3 at 3:47.41 out of 14 runners. Classmate Tony Salvatore won section 5 with a time of 3:51.27, besting 11 other runners, while freshman Nathan Mathabane posted a time of 3:53.36 in section 4.
In the steeplechase, senior Elliot Welder clocked in at 9:08.12 to finish in sixth place.
Sophomore Donn Cabral had the best time in the 5000-meter run for the Tigers finishing sixth in section 2 at 14:01.33. Fellow sophomore Max Kaulbach ran 14:31.91.
The final event on Friday was the 10,000-meter run. Junior Rob Speare placed 11th running a 29:32.57.
On Saturday, three Tigers ran in the 800. Freshman Peter Callahan won section 4 in a time of 1:50.50 the fourth best time by a collegiate athlete out of the 45 competitors. Freshman Michael Palmisano and senior Jeff Carbonella crossed the line together at 1:54.09 and 1:54.11 in section 2.
The team will be at home for the next three meets. First up is the Sam Howell Invitational on April 2-3.
