Women's Water Polo Defeats Harvard, Falls to Hartwick at Elite Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (3/6/10) - The 20th-ranked Princeton women's water polo team split two games on Saturday, falling to 11th-ranked Hartwick 10-8 and defeating Harvard 12-6 at the Elite Eight Invitational, held at Indiana.
Princeton fell behind early in the game and trailed the whole way before closing the gap to two goals in the final frame. Hartwick scored the game's first five goals and had a 6-3 lead at the half. Princeton outscored the Hawks 4-2 in the final period, but it was too late to draw the Tigers even.
Sarah Hutchison and Saranna Soroka each scored two goals in the loss, while Carolina Ardila, Lauren Brunner, Phoebe Champion and Cari Levine added single markers. Kristen Ward made six saves in the cage.
Princeton will face Harvard in consolation draw of the tournament's bracket later today.

In the second game, Princeton and Harvard each traded goals in the opening period and the game remained tight through three quarters before the Tigers built the gap with the only four goals of the final stanza.
Brittany Zwirner led the Princeton attack with a team-high four goals in the game. Sarah Hutchison chipped in a pair of goals, her second two-goal game of the day. Phoebe Champion also scored twice in the win, which elevated Princeton to 6-3 this season. Kristen Ward made 10 saves.
The win sets up a game with 17th-ranked Brown tomorrow morning at 11:10 a.m. It will mark the third-straight Sunday that Princeton and Brown have played, with each winning a game.
