Samara Named Coach of the Year in the Mid-Atlantic Region

NEW ORLEANS (3/9/10) - Princeton head men's track and field coach Fred Samara has been named the 2010 Mid-Atlantic Coach of the Year it was announced by the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Wednesday, March 9.
This is Samara's fifth time getting the award, receiving it in 2004 and 2007 in indoor track and in 2001 and 2002 in outdoor track.
Samara is in his 32nd season as the William M. Weaver Jr. Head Coach of Men's Track & Field at Princeton. He has won 28 Ivy League titles across three sports, five in cross country, 12 in indoor track and field and 11 in outdoor track and field. Since 2000 alone, he has guided his teams to seven league championships.
Samara has coached more than 200 individual Heptagonal champions, 102 outdoor and 105 indoor. His athletes have earned 41 All-America citations and three have been crowed national champions.
The Tigers won the 2010 Ivy League Indoor Track and Field Heptagonal title on February 28. It is the 11 indoor title won by Samara and his teams in the last 17 years. A record 13 members of the team were Ivy League champions and an additional eight placed second earning a total of 26 all-league honors. During the season Princeton athletes reached NCAA Provisional Qualifying marks 10 times and 14 athletes recorded new personal bests in their events.
