Cummings and Kiernan Named First-Team Academic All-District

PRINCETON, N.J. (6/3/10) - Senior Reilly Kiernan and junior Sarah Cummings have been named CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine First-Team Academic All-District in women's track & field/cross country it was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Thursday, June 3.
The pair will automatically be included in the Academic All-America ballot.
A member of both the cross country and track teams, Cummings is an All-America in the 10,000 and will run for her second All-America status in the event at the NCAA Championships June 9-12. Cummings is an eight-time All-Ivy League honoree and is a four-time Ivy League Champion, winning the 10,000 and 5,000 twice each. She has guided her teams to a total of six Ivy League team titles and has competed in four NCAA Championships. Cummings was a scoring member of the cross country team that placed fifth at the 2009 NCAA Championship by playing 49th overall. She was named team MVP in 2008 and 2009. Cummings has been named Academic All-Ivy and All-Academic and All-Region by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) in 2009. She holds the school record in the 4x1500 and ranks in the top five in the 10,000 and 5,000. An economics major, Cummings is the head of event planning for Princeton Women in Business, is a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority and Cottage Club, is a Princeton Cross Country Camp counselor and is a cross country captain elect.
A recent Summa Cum Laude graduate, Kiernan competed for both the cross country and track teams. A nominee for the NCAA Woman of the Year award, Kiernan was captain of the cross country team in 2009 and was a scoring member of the team that placed fifth at the NCAA Championship in 2009 and 2008. Kiernan is a five-time All-Ivy League selection and has helped the Tigers win seven Ivy League team titles, while twice being named Academic All-Ivy. Kiernan's committees and volunteerism is endless and includes: Oxfam, Princeton ONE, Greening Princeton, Model UN, Community House, Princeton Disability Awareness, Pace Council For Civic Values, Alcohol Coalition, SAT Tutor, Center for Constitutional Rights, Princeton Kids Marathon, Rogosin Institute/Kidney Dialysis, Daily Princetonian editor, Community-Based Learning Initiative. This spring she received the Spirit of Princeton Award, the Art Lane Award, Center of Migration and Development Thesis Prize, American Studies David Bowers Prize, the Sociology Department Brown Prize for highest academic achievement and was inducted in the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. A native of Pelham, N.Y., Kiernan earned second-team honors by CoSIDA last year.
