PRINCETON, N.J. (9/22/10) - The Princeton women's cross country team will get its first taste of the Ivy League competition at the HYP meet in New Haven, Conn., on Friday, Sept, 24 at the Yale Golf Course.
Princeton finished second in the Spiked Shoe Invitational on Sept. 18, out of 14 teams. The Tigers return three of their top runners from 2009 in seniors Sarah Cummings, Ashley Higginson and junior Alex Banfich. The trio all finished in the top five of the Ivy League Heptagonal last year and ran in the NCAA Championship. Princeton's next two runners across the line at Spiked Shoe was sophomore Mel Newbery and freshman Marisa Cummings.
Harvard has competed just once at the Iona Meet of Champions on Sept. 18. The Crimson finished 13th out of 18 teams with Thea Lee leading the team with a time of 23:47. The Crimson finished second to Princeton at Heps last season and return its top five Claire Richardson, Sammy Silva, Eliza Ives, Nicole Cochran and Kailyn Kuzmuk in tact.
Yale has placed third in both meets run this season, at Dartmouth and Quinnipiac. Sophomore Elizabeth Marvin finished third at Dartmouth with a time of 20:36.15 while freshman Clare Kane paced the Bulldogs at Quinnipiac with a time of 19:12 on the 5k course. Yale was eighth at Heps last year and returns four of its top five runners from that meet, including Anne Lovelace, Nihal Kayali, Caitlin Hudson and Marvin.
