September 05, 2010 | Field Hockey
PRINCETON (9/5/10) - The fourth-ranked Princeton field hockey team opened the 2010 season on Sunday afternoon with a 7-0 blanking of Bucknell at Class of '52 Stadium.
Juniors Kathleen Sharkey and Katie Reinprecht, both first-team All-Americas in 2009, picked up 2010 where they left off last season with big games against the Bison. Sharkey equaled her career highs in goals with three and points with seven to lead the team, while Reinprecht added a goal and two helpers.
Sophomore Molly Goodman opened the scoring for the home team in the game's fourth minute when she tapped in a cross from Sharkey. It was the first of two goals, a new carrer-high, for Goodman. Six minutes later Sharkey scored off a feed from Reinprecht and the Tigers led by a pair of goals. Sharkey scored her second goal of the game later in the first half and Princeton held a 3-0 lead at half time.
Princeton added four more goals in the second half as Reinprecht netted an unassisted goal in the 43rd minute and Sharkey scored from Reinprecht three minutes later. Senior Katherine Cape and Goodman would add the final Tiger goals in the win.
Sophomore Michelle Cesan added two assists in the win and sophomore Julia Reinprecht also had an assist. Freshman goalkeeper Christina Maida made one save for the shutout win. Princeton outshot Bucknell 26-3.
Princeton is now 1-0 on the season after winning its third-straight season opener. The Tigers resume their schedule next Friday at Richmond.
