Volleyball Falls In Four Sets At Big East Rival Seton Hall
September 08, 2010 | Women's Volleyball
After a season-opening sweep at the Lafayette Invitational, the Princeton women's volleyball team dealt with its first bit of adversity Tuesday night. Despite a second straight brilliant effort from senior co-captain C.C. Lobben, Princeton dropped a four-set match at Seton Hall.
Princeton struggled out of the gate and dropped the opener 25-13. The Tigers showed resilience in the second, racing out to a big lead and taking control of a seemingly simple win. They led 24-15, but the Pirates ran off nine straight points to send the set into extra play. A kill by Cathryn Quinn gave Princeton a 12th set ball. and a ball handling error finished off the win.
Unfortunately for the road team, that late-set surge would propel Seton Hall early in the third. The Pirates won eight of the first nine points and basically controlled play in the final two sets for the 25-13, 26-28, 25-18, 25-18 victory. Seton Hall improved to 3-4 with the win, while Princeton fell to 3-1.
Sophomore outside Lydia Rudnick, who was among the Ivy League leaders in several statistical categories after the first weekend, led Princeton with 14 kills, but her .190 attack percentage was representative of an offense that never found a comfort level Tuesday night. As a team, the Tigers recorded only four more kills than errors (32-28) and hit .026 for the match.
Quinn recorded seven kills and three blocks, while Lobben led the Tigers with 28 digs. Junior Michaela Venuti recorded 21 kills and 17 digs, while sophomore Jennifer Palmquist added five kills, three digs and three blocks.
Princeton will play at the Rutgers Tournament this weekend.
