Hollimon Sets Record in the 300 at Princeton Relays

PRINCETON, N.J. (1/22/11) - The Princeton Relays were held on Saturday, Jan. 22 at Jadwin Gym, the first athletic event since final exams. The men's track & field team won six events, including the long jump, triple jump, 300, 400, mile and 4x400.
Highlighting the night was a record-setting performance by junior Austin Hollimon in the 300. Hollimon had the winning time at 33.53 setting a Princeton record breaking the previous of 33.88 which he set himself last season. Freshman Tom Hopkins was second at 35.04.
For the second straight season senior Dion Lehman won the long jump at the Relays. Lehman had a winning mark of 7.29 meters. Freshman Tom Hopkins took third with a jump of 7.05 meters, with classmate Damon McLean fourth at 7.03.
McLean went on to win the triple jump, leaping to 15.05 meters. The next jumper, Steven Brown of Rider, would only reach 14.72 meters.
Freshman Omar Jarrett finished fourth in the high jump, clearing 1.85 meters.
Junior David Slovenski was second in the pole vault, but had the best collegiate mark as the first-place vaulter was an attached athlete. Slovenski reached 4.95 meters in the event.
Early in the evening, senior George Abyad placed second in the shot put, throwing to 16.27 meters, his best mark of the season.
Three Tigers qualified for the 60-meter dash finals out of 35 running in the preliminaries. Sophomore Jason Reagor placed fourth at 7.14, matching his career best, while freshman Brian Mills was fifth at 7.15 and sophomore Sebastian Steffen was sixth at 7.19.
In the 60-meter hurdles, sophomore Richard Sheldon finished in fourth place with a time of 7.40. Senior Adam Thayer was fifth at 8.51, as the pair reached the finals out of 23 hurdlers.
Another victory was recorded in the heptathlon with Tom Hopkins winning with 5086 points. Teammate Brad Pelisek was second with 4299 points.
The remaining track events were run in sections.
Freshman Chris Bendsten had the best time in the mile running the track in 4:13.96. Junior Tyler King took second at 4:15.71, while freshman Alejandro Arroyo Yamin was third at 4:15.93.
Sophomore Russell Dinkins won the 400-meter dash in 49.03. He was the only sprinter to come in in under 50 seconds. He went on the take fourth in the 800 with a time of 1:56.30.
Former track & field team member Jordan Sawadogo won the 500 with a time of 1:05.81. Junior Ricky Kearney finished second at 1:06.88.
Nilan Schnure, Tom Scott, Kearney and Hollimon capped off the Tigers' success by winning the 4x400 in 3:21.52.
Wrapping up the day was a dual between Mike Eddy of Princeton and Ashton Eaton of the Nike OTC Elite, in an 800-meter run. Eddy came out on top at 1:55.85, just edging Easton by .05 seconds.
Princeton will compete at the Armory Quad Meet at the Armory in NYC next Saturday, Jan. 29.
