Pan Am Field Hockey Competition Kicks Off Wednesday

PRINCETON (10/18/11) - The men's and women's field hockey competition at the 2011 Pan American Games kicks off on Wednesday and Princeton will be represented on both squads by three athletes and an assistant coach as the United States looks to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics.

Katie Reinprecht, Julia Reinprecht and Michelle Cesan are all on the roster for the American women's team. The trio, along with Kathleen Sharkey, is taking the year off from Princeton to train and compete for the U.S. National Team during Olympic qualification. Also, current Princeton assistant coach Nate Franks is working with the U.S. men's team as a video coach during the tournament.

The Pan Am champion will automatically qualify for the Olympics while the remaining teams will have an opportunity at another qualifying tournament held in early 2012. The American women team begins its schedule on Wednesday against Mexico and will also play Chile and Cuba in the qualification round. The medal round begins next Wednesday. The men's tournament begins on Thursday and alternates days with the women's schedule.
