Oct. 20 TigerCast: Erin Jennings, Julie Shackford & Jared Backus
October 20, 2011 | Field Hockey, Football, General, Women's Soccer
Erin Jennings (field hockey), Julie Shackford (women's soccer) and Jared Backus (football) join the Oct. 20 edition of TigerCast before a big Princeton weekend at historic rival Harvard.
Jennings is one of triplets playing field hockey at powerful collegiate programs, and she already has a senior year win over one of her sisters. She doesn't have a sister at Harvard, but no win would be sweeter for a Princeton team that is in the middle of a five-way tie in the Ivy League right now. Jennings talks about the early adversity this team has overcome and how that could make the Tigers a scary team if they reach the postseason.
Shackford knows all about postseason runs, since she once led Princeton to the NCAA semifinals in women's soccer. A slow start to the 2011 season has likely dashed similar hopes for this year, but Princeton has made a nice turnaround lately and enters Saturday's game at first-place Harvard on a four-game winning streak. Shackford discusses both the early struggles and the turnaround, and how the latter could affect the 2012 season.
Backus guides a Princeton defense that has a monumental task on its hands this weekend. The Crimson stands atop the Ivy League in both the standings and several offensive categories, while Princeton is looking to erase the bitter taste from last weekend at Brown. The defensive coordinator and linebacker coach, Backus talks about a couple of his standouts, what went wrong last weekend and what needs to go right when Princeton and Harvard resume their historic rivalry.
