Men's Water Polo Sweeps Northern Pair in Crossover Games

The Tigers started the day with a 14-6 win over Fordham. The Tigers broke a 4-4 tie midway through the second quarter with two goals in the final three minutes of the first half to pull ahead of the Rams. Chris Cottrell scored on an ejection to make the score 5-4 and Drew Hoffenberg's goal in the closing seconds of the half made the score 6-4 at the half.
Princeton scored the first five goals of the second half to pull ahead and build a big lead. Kurt Buchbinder had a team-high three goals in the win while Cottrell, Tim Wenzlau and Mike Helou each scored twice. Hoffenberg contributed three assists in addition to his goal and Buchbinder had three steals.
Nick Gilligan made seven saves in three quarters for the win. Brendan Byrne made three saves in the fourth quarter.
The Tigers completed the day with a season-high 19 goals in a win over Iona. Princeton fell behind 1-0 in the game, but scored the next 10 goals to build a lead. Princeton led 3-1 after a quarter and 8-1 at the half.
Matt Weber led the Tigers with his second four-goal game of the weekend. Wenzlau added three goals in the win, and contributed four assists. Helou and Billy tifft each scored twice, while Hoffenberg chipped in another three assists. Thomas Nelson had three steals. Tyler Amina made seven saves in three quarters for the win and Byrne stopped four shots in the fourth quarter.
Princeton improved to 17-7 overall with the two wins. Princeton is back in action next Sunday on the second day of the Ivy Championships at Harvard. Princeton is the event's top seed and will play one of the Ivy club teams in its opening game.
