Women's Soccer Falls at Harvard 2-1
October 23, 2011 | Women's Soccer
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Harvard held on to first place in the Ivy League women's soccer standings Saturday night, defeating the Princeton women's soccer team 2-1 to end the Tigers' four-game winning streak.
Princeton had remained alive in the Ivy League race with a win over Columbia last weekend on Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium but needed to win its final three Ivy games along with seeing other results go the Tigers' way. Instead, the Crimson scored when Mai Le put one in from close range in the 28th minute and gave themselves a 2-0 lead in the 60th minute on a Melanie Baskind goal.
Jen Hoy put Princeton on the board in the 88th minute with her team-best seventh goal on a pass from Gabrielle Ragazzo, but the 2-1 margin became the final.
Princeton more than doubled Harvard in shots, outshooting the Crimson 15-7, but for the sixth time this season the Tigers did not come away with the win when outshooting their opponent. The loss dropped the Tigers to 5-9-1 overall and 1-4-0 in the Ivy League while Harvard improved to 10-4-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the league.
Princeton will have its final home game of the season next Saturday at 7 p.m. against Cornell before closing the 2011 campaign at Penn on Nov. 5.
