Kirby Named Ivy Field Hockey Rookie of the Week
October 04, 2011 | Field Hockey
PRINCETON (10/4/11) - Princeton freshman Sydney Kirby was named the Ivy League's Rookie of the Week on Tuesday following her five-point week in games against Maryland and Columbia.
Kirby began her week with an assist at third-ranked Maryland last Tuesday and spurred a Princeton comeback on Saturday in the Tigers' 3-2 double-overtime win against Columbia. Down 2-1 late in the first half, Kirby scored on a penalty corner to even the game before the half. Kirby then provided the game winner for Princeton early in the second overtime as Princeton improved to 2-1 in the Ivy League.
Kirby now leads the Tigers with five goals, five assists and 15 points in her rookie campaign. She becomes the second Tiger to earn Ivy Rookie honors this season, joining teammate and classmate Allison Evans.
Kirby and the Tigers host Virginia and Wake Forest this weekend at Class of '52 Stadium.
