Cabral Wins Regional While Tigers Take Third
November 12, 2011 | Men's Cross Country
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (11/12/11) - Reminiscent of the 2010 Ivy League Heptagonals, senior Donn Cabral sprinted across the line with a good distance between he and the rest of the competition. Eight seconds in fact. He won the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional with a time of 30:30.3, more than eight seconds ahead of second-place finished Ryan Sheridan of Villanova.
The Tigers finished third as a team with 90 points. Georgetown won the race with 47 points followed by Villanova with 63. Despite not earning an automatic bid to the Championships with a top-two finish, Princeton's incredible season has earned it big points in big meets. The Tigers should be one of the first teams selected as one of the 13 at-large squads that the NCAA will pick on Sunday evening.
Sophomore Chris Bendtsen finished 12th overall, as the second Tiger across the line, with a time of 30:51.8. Freshman Eddie Owens ran 31:08.5 for third place. Sophomores Alejandro Arroyo Yamin and Tyler Udland finished five seconds apart, at 31:14.9 and 31:19.9, respectively.
The NCAA Championships will be held on Monday, Nov. 21 in Terre Haute, Ind.
