Cabral Named Regional Athlete of the Year
November 17, 2011 | Men's Cross Country
PRINCETON, N.J. (11/16/11) - Senior Donn Cabral is the Mid-Atlantic Men's Athlete of the Year, the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced on Wednesday, Nov. 16.
One week ago Cabral plowed ahead of his competitors at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional, finishing eight seconds ahead of the second-place runner with a time of 30:30.33. The four-time All-America Cabral was in 33rd place at the 5k split but with two miles to go Cabral flipped a switch and made a big move. He would hold that ground the rest of the race.
Sophomore Chris Bendtsen and freshman Eddie Owens, along with Cabral, won All-Region honors for finishing in the top 25 at their respective regional site.
Princeton runs for the national title on Monday, Nov. 21 in Terre Haute, Ind., at the 2011 NCAA Cross Country Championship.
