New Year's Invitational at Jadwin Opens Track Season

PRINCETON, N.J. (12/10/11) - The Princeton women's track and field team opened the 2011-12 indoor season hosting the New Years Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 10 at Jadwin Gym.
Two freshmen won their first collegiate events in their first meets as Tigers. Tejumade Adewole was the champion in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.78, 0.07 seconds ahead of the second-place runner. Chukwunonso Okwelogu won the shot put throwing to 12.77 meters, more than two inches further than the second-place thrower.
Senior Eileen Moran won the 60-meter dash, clocking in at 7.65. Freshman Emily Easton finished fifth at 7.88. Moran went on to take third in the 300 at 40.85. Junior Joie Hand was one place back with a time of 41.06.
Sophomore Kristin Smoot was second and freshman Cecilia Barowski was third in the 600 at 1:34.81 and 1:35.15, respectively. Barowksi and Hand would be half of the women's 4x400. Along with sophomore Carrie Vuong and freshman Emily Broyles, the relay would finish in second place with a time of 3:56.80.
Junior Tory Worthen was the runner up in the pole vault but had the best mark among the collegians, clearing 3.80 meters. Classmate Lauren Tauscher was fourth with a mark of 3.50.
In the triple jump, sophomore Imani Oliver finished third reaching 11.98 meters. Classmate Theresa Kennedy would finish in the top five in the high jump, clearing 1.60 meters.
Princeton will hold the Princeton Quad Meet on Saturday, Jan. 14.
