Allgood Scores 22 as Women's Basketball Defeats Cornell 65-43

PRINCETON, N.J. (2/12/11) - Junior Devona Allgood scored a career-high 22 points on 8 for 9 shooting to lift Princeton to a 65-43 win over Cornell on Saturday, Feb. 12 at Jadwin Gym.
The Tigers improve to 17-4 overall and 6-1 in the Ivy League, winning their 18th consecutive game at Jadwin Gym. Princeton is in sole possession of first place after Harvard lost at Brown this evening, 57-56.
Allgood added a game-high eight rebounds, two assists and two steals. Senior Addie Micir contributed 14 points, three rebounds, three assists, three steals and a block; while junior Lauren Edwards chipped in 13 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Sophomore Lauren Polansky grabbed six rebounds, five points, four assists and a steal.
Princeton started the game with a 17-5 run in the first 7:47. Allgood would score seven during during that span, Edwards had four, while Polansky and Micir had a three pointer each.
Cornell responded with a 10-0 run with Taylor Flynn scoring half of her team's points, to make it a two-point game, 17-15, with 7:54.
A layup by Allgood ended Princeton's nearly six-minute scoring drought.
Claire Fitzpatrick hit a jumper with help from Flynn on the next possession.
Sophomore Megan Bowen and Edwards scored back-to-back baskets, Edwards on a steal and layup, to put Princeton up 23-17 with less than three minutes to play.
Shelby Lyman and Fitzpatrick would score the half's final two baskets to give Princeton just a two-point lead at halftime, 23-21.
Allgood would score the first four points of the second half to put the Tigers back up by six, 27-21 at less than two minutes in. She would score 10 of Princeton's 15 points in the first seven minutes, as Princeton took a 37-28 lead at 12:51.
A three from the left wing by Hill would give Princeton its first double-digit lead since 11:45 in the first half, and a fastbreak layup by Polansky would stretch it to 42-28 with 9:11 to play.
The Tigers would have an 18-point edge with five minutes to play and continued to expand that lead going up by as much as 24 in the third and final minute.
Fitzpatrick would pace the Big Red with 16 points, while Flynn finished with eight. Allyson DiMagno led the team with seven rebounds, while scoring seven and picking up three assists. Maka Anyanwu also grabbed seven rebounds in the game. Cornell shot 34 percent overall (17-50), was 66.7 percent from the line (6-9), and 30 percent from long range (3-10). The Big Red fall to 5-17 overall and 2-6 in league play.
Princeton shot 48.1 percent from the field (26-54), 46.2 percent from the stripe (6-13) and 38.9 percent from behind the arc (7-18).
Princeton hosts Yale and Brown next weekend, Feb. 18-19.
