Third-Ranked Trinity Tops Women's Squash 8-1 In Regular Season Finale

Despite a hard-fought win at No. 3 for freshman Libby Eyre, the fifth-ranked Princeton women's squash team fell to No. 3 Trinity 8-1 in New Haven, Conn., in its 2011 regular season finale.
Eyre, who has consistently played near the top of the lineup, won each odd game, including a 15-13 win in the third over Jennifer Pelletier. Despite losing the fourth, Eyre rallied for an 11-8 win in the fifth to take the match.
Though Princeton wouldn't get another individual win, there would be several tight matches. No. 2 Jackie Moss, who had been undefeated this season, lost a 3-1 match that included a pair of 11-9 defeats. Freshman Lexi Saunders lost 3-2 at No. 4, though all three of her losses were by either two or three points apiece, including a 13-11 loss. She added wins of 12-10 and 11-9 in the close loss to Wee Nee Low.
Senior Nikki Sequeira had a 1-0 lead before losing three close sets, including an 11-9 game in the fourth, while sophomore Casey Cortes rallied from an 0-2 hole before losing 11-6 in the fifth.
Princeton will enter the 2011 Howe Cup national championships, being held this weekend at Jadwin Gym, as the fifth seed and will likely see Penn in the first round. That would be a rematch of an exciting 5-4 Penn win at Jadwin earlier in the season. The last time the Howe Cup came to the Jadwin Squash Courts was 2008, when Princeton overcame a 5-4 regular season loss to Penn and defeated the Quakers 6-3 for the national title.
