Cross Country Teams Earn Academic Honors

NEW ORLEANS, La. (2/17/11) - Four members of the Princeton cross country teams have been named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I Cross Country All-Academic Teams, it was announced by the organization on Thursday, Feb. 17.
Senior Sarah Cummings and Ashley Higginson and junior Alex Banfich earn honors for the women's team, while Mark Amirault captures the award for the men's team.
The award honors those student-athletes who have succeeded both academically and athletically. To be eligible for the award a student-athlete must carry a minimum 3.25 cumulative grade point average and must finish among the top 15 finishers at the NCAA regional meet.
Banfich was the Tigers' top runner at both the regionals and the NCAAs. She finished third at the regional in a time of 20:04 and ran 20:36 at the NCAAs to finished 20th, earning All-America honors. Cummings was 12th at the regional, running 20:35, and was 57th at the national meet, clocking in at 21:03. Higginson ran 20:45 at the regional to finish 15th and ran 21:10 at the NCAAs to place 74th.
Amirault ran 30:22 at the regionals to finish ninth overall. He finished 53rd at the national meet with a time of 30:38.
Banfich, Cummings and Amirault all earned Academic All-Ivy honors in the fall.Both teams were also named All-Academic for having a team GPA of over 3.0.
The women's team finished fourth at the Mid-Atlantic Regional and finished 15th at the NCAAs, while the men's team won the regional and placed 12th at nationals.
